Still obsessed over this floral set

7 October 2026 · Nails
Floral nail art set with hand-painted roses and blossoms at La Mode Gympie

Still obsessed over this set. That is the whole caption, and honestly it is the only review that matters. The best feedback a nail tech ever gets is a client who cannot stop looking at her own hands — checking them at the counter, holding them up in the car, sending a photo to her sister before she has even left the car park.

This one is floral nail art: roses and blossoms painted by hand over a fresh set. It is the sort of set that takes longer than a plain colour, and it earns every extra minute.

Watch it on La Mode’s Facebook

A floral set, painted by hand

There is a difference between a nail sticker, a wrap and art that is actually painted. Painted art sits in the same layer as the rest of your colour, so it does not lift at the edges, catch on your jumper or peel off in the shower. It wears down with the set instead of sitting on top of it.

Florals are built in layers. The base colour goes on first and is cured. Then the shapes — petals, leaves, the odd soft bud — go in one at a time with a fine brush, curing between layers so nothing smears. A rose might take three passes: a base shape, a mid tone, then a fine liner to open it up. A blossom is quicker to paint but harder to balance, because it has to look loose rather than drawn.

That is also why no two floral sets look the same. We can work from a photo you bring in, or from the emoji on your phone, or we can lay the flowers out as we go and you can watch it come together. What works on a short square tip is not the same as what works on a long almond, and the design gets adjusted to your nail length and shape rather than the other way around.

Nail art sits on top of the standard set, so it is booked in with your gel or acrylic nails rather than added at the end in five minutes. If you want flowers all ten fingers, say so when you book so we allow the time.

Why a set like this takes the time it does

People are often surprised that a painted set takes an hour and a half to two hours. Most of that is not the art.

Prep comes first: removing anything left from the last set, then shaping to the length and outline you asked for. Cuticle work is the part that decides how the set wears. Any dry skin or cuticle left on the nail plate becomes a place for the product to lift from, so it is pushed back, cleaned and buffed before a single layer goes on.

Then the structure. A base coat, the colour, and a builder layer that gives the nail its strength and its shape. Each layer is cured under the lamp, which is not a step anyone can rush through — under-cured gel is soft gel, and soft gel lifts.

Only then does the painting start. Art is done thin. Thin layers cure properly and stay flat, so the finish is smooth under a hand instead of bumpy. Every layer of art gets its own cure, and the whole thing is finished with a top coat that seals the art inside the set.

At the end we check the set under the lamp, look at it from the side, and make sure the shape matches across all ten. That last look is what separates a set that looks good in a photo from one that looks good in real life.

Keeping them right between visits

A painted set will hold its shape for two to three weeks before the growth at the cuticle starts to show. How well it holds up in between comes down to a few small habits.

Cuticle oil, daily. Not because it does anything for the product, but because it keeps the skin around the nail soft and stops the lifting that starts at the edge. Keep a bottle in your handbag and use it while you wait for the kettle.

Wear gloves for the dishes, the garden and any cleaning spray. Water and detergent are what break down the bond at the sides, and a floral set does not deserve to go out like that.

Do not pick. If a nail snags or chips, book in and we will repair it — picking takes a small chip and turns it into a lifted nail and a damaged nail plate under it.

When you come back, we soak the set off properly rather than filing it down, then start fresh. If you are not sure what you want next, bring two or three photos and we will talk through what will actually suit your hands. You can see what a set costs on our pricing page, and there are more sets over in the nail gallery.
