Inspiration photos are genuinely useful in the chair. They do more than a description ever can. “A bit shorter” and “something warmer” mean different things to different people, and a picture settles it in seconds.

Bring the photo, not the description

Save the screenshots. Bring three or four if you have them, not just one, because the ones you keep coming back to tell us more than the single shot you grabbed on the way out the door. Note what you actually like about each: the depth at the root, the way the ends sit, the tone in the daylight. It might not be the whole look. Often it is one detail you keep noticing.

Be ready for us to ask what you do not like about it, too. That question saves a lot of guesswork, and it is the fastest way to find the version of the photo that will suit you.

What a consultation actually covers

At La Mode we look at the photo against your own hair — your natural depth, your regrowth pattern, how much colour your hair has had through it before, and how much time you want to spend on it at home. A look that works on thick, cool blonde hair will read differently on fine, warm hair. It is better to say so up front than to chase something your hair will fight every morning.

We will also be honest about what it takes to get there. Some inspiration photos are one appointment. Others are two or three, especially when there is old colour to work through. Then it is just hair

Once the plan is settled, it is a normal appointment: cut and colour, a decent chat, and a finish you can repeat at home without a fight. Keep the photo on your phone after your visit. It is handy at the next one, and it helps your stylist keep the result consistent from appointment to appointment.
